An ever so stylish sister act: Maid-of-honour Pippa Middleton mirrors the bride in white Alexander McQueen gown

Tradition dictates that one should never wear white to another woman's wedding. But the marriage of Kate Middleton and Prince William today was not just any wedding. And Philippa Middleton, it is clear, is not just any maid-of-honour.
The bride's sister, 27, looked the picture of elegance as she guided the young troupe of bridesmaids into Westminster Abbey this morning.
The gown, which was made by Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton, was demure enough for the formal occasion without compromising on style, or, indeed, overshadowing the bride.

Stylish choice: Pippa's slinky white cowl-neck dress showed off her slender figure, while the cap sleeves kept it youthful. The back of the dress was studded with tiny silk-covered buttons

The hair, like her sister's was worn down for a romantic look, with just the front part held back by a lily-of-the-valley hairpiece, mirroring the bride and bridesmaids' bouquets.

It co-ordinated perfectly with the Nicki Macfarlane frocks worn by the young bridesmaids Grace van Cutsem, three, Eliza Lopes, three, Lady Louise Windsor, seven, and the Hon Margarita Armstrong-Jones, eight.
The white full-skirted dresses were all handmade with English Cluny lace, and featured dark cream sashes, tied at the back with a large bow.

Hair arrangements, by Kate's florist Shane Connolly, white tights and satin Mary Jane pumps with Swarovski crystal buckles by the Devon-based Rainbow Club completed the classic look.
The pageboys, who were dressed in the Regency-style red tunic of a Foot Guards officer, echoed William's formal Irish Guards attire in red jackets with gold braiding.
The look, which dates from the 1820s, draws its insignia from the Irish Guards.
The uniforms were designed in the Royal Household and were created by Kashket and Partners, who have also fitted Prince William's uniform for his Wedding Day.
Pippa appears to have been a calming influence on the youngsters, who were all impeccably behaved throughout the journey and the ceremony.

Tom Pettifer, eight, and William (Billy) Lowther-Pinkerton, ten, like the bridesmaids, could be seen waving to the crowds as their chauffer-driven Rolls made its way up the Mall.
And they seemed unfazed by the attention as they entered the Abbey ahead of the bride, the two youngest holding Pippa's hands.
All the children have close ties to the Royal couple - especially William. Lady Louise is the Prince's cousin, while Tom and Grace are both his god-children.
Billy is the son of Prince William and Prince Harry’s private secretary since 2005, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton, and Margarita is William’s second cousin.
THE PAGEBOYS: WHAT THE FOOT GUARDS' GARB MEANS

The pageboys were dressed in the Regency-style red tunic of a Foot Guards officer, echoing William's formal Irish Guards attire.
Tom Pettifer, eight, and Billy Lowther-Pinkerton, ten, wore red jackets with gold braiding with buttons arranged in fours, representing the Irish - or Fourth - Regiment of Foot Guards.
They have Irish shamrocks on the collars and the buttons feature the Harp of Ireland surmounted by the Crown Imperial.
The boys wore ivory breeches with white stockings and black buckle shoes in accordance with tradition.
The look is completed by a gold and crimson tasselled sash around the waist, usually worn by officers in the Irish Guards when in the presence of a Member of the Royal Family.
The collars and cuffs were created by the Royal School of Needlework.
